Does poisen ivy look like bug bites? PLEASE HELP ASAP?

I'm very allergic to bee stings and bug bites (not deadly allergic-sensitive). but tonight i might have stumbled into some poisen ivy and everywhere that itches looks like a bite- not a mosquito bite- bigger., Is it poisen ivy and can i do anything to make it stop or prevent it from spreading?

Does poisen ivy look like bug bites? PLEASE HELP ASAP?
The surest way to identify poison ivy for the non-medical person is that it keeps getting worse, especially if you have sensitive skin. Everytime my daughters have had it, it starts out looking like bug bites (usually in a line or concentrated in one area), but within a day or so will start to spread out and cover most of the infected area and begins to make the skin look leathery. If you suspect it is poison ivy, you should treat it.

The oil on the plant (urushiol) is what causes the reaction, and it can't be washed off with soap and water. There is an over the counter product called ZANFEL which will wash off the oil if used correctly. It make take 1-3 applications to work completely, but it should stop the itching immediately. A few months ago, my daughter had a patch of poison ivy that was covering her whole cheek and part of her ear - the Zanfel improved it imediately - within 24 hours it was barely visible. You can also take Benadryl - in addition to the Zanfel

Zanfel is about $30 a tube, but it works better than anything else I have seen. Your local pharmacy will have it over the counter.

As for your contacts, it is hard to say. I think it is probably OK to take them out, trying as hard as you can not to touch any part of your eye. If you have latex gloves that would be best. I think you can buy them in most pharmacies. Or someone else can help you take them out - I used to help my daughter with hers all the time. It sort of depends on how allergic you are. I can roll around in poison ivy and not have a reaction, but if my Mom gets within 3 feet of it she breaks out all over. Different people have different sensitivities, and the more sensitive to it you are, the worse it is likely to get.

Again, OTC Zanfel is the best thing I have found, but you do have to read the directions and use it correctly. Good luck!

Is an Ivy League Education truly worth more than actual work experience?

It used to be that one voted for political leaders that possessed common sense and work experience. It so appears that now it is based on education from an Ivy League school with a major in political science.

What does a degree in political science from an Ivy League college teach that prepares one to be an expert in everything without having to physically work to gain actual experience?

Going to and recieving an Ivy League education and diploma shows that you are 9 out of 10 times likely to come from the "elite" American families.
Reply:Actually - you are better off getting a degree in Political Science from a great state schools like UC Berkeley, UVa, and or UM of Ann Arbor which will give you a much bigger bang for your buck than Columbia.
Reply:in what context?
Reply:It depends on what you major in. Accounting, Engineering yes. A degree in liberal arts no. I suppose a degree in Political Science would most qualify one to work in the field of politics, but many politicians do not have a degree in politcal science from an Ivy league school, or any other school for that matter. It is a BS subject nevertheless.
Reply:The Universities provide exposure to Liberal thought -

that is the secret ingredient.
Reply:No one goes from college directly into a major elected office. To be President, you have to be age 35. So you get some experience, either before or after going to college.

Having degrees on one's resume, from Ivy League schools, is a good thing. Bill Gates went to Harvard. He never graduated. Look what he accomplished. John Kerry has a law degree from Harvard. Besides getting elected to the Senate, his accomplishments have been non-existent.
Reply:Although "Micorsoft Works" might be called precedant,

there is actually no such thing as "Political Science"...
Reply:The Skull and Bones say so.
Reply:Yes, after graduating from college I was hired by a Contractor in MN.

My first day at work, I was ask to bid on a million $$ project. I didn't know sh-it! so I asked for help from a co-worker who never went to college. I continue to asked for his help for about 3-4 month. = work experience.

My grades have been improving...but my dad was involved in an accidnet in 10th grade...so my grade suddenly dropped..

is it still possible to include that in the application?

Admission to IVY league Schools?
Well, you can't really spell, so I'd say that you don't really have a chance.
Reply:Some Ivy league schools are easier to get into than others- I believe Cornell has the highest acceptance rate.

You need to get your verbal SAT score up.

Colleges might see it as a good thing that your GPA is improving- most schools don't expect that you'll have been taking all AP classes since freshman year, and they look mostly at junior year and the classes you take senior year, I think.

Make sure you have someone proofread your essays.

DON'T get your hopes up about Ivy League schools- there are plenty of other great schools out there that might be a better fit- think about exactly what you are looking for in a college, not just about the name.

About martial arts- you can include it as long as you participated in it during high school and tell the truth about when you did it.

Can poison ivy scars cause a new break out 30 years later?

I havent had poison ivy for 30 years, and I have scars on my fingers from childhood. I am getting litte itchy patches and bumps where the scars are, can poison ivy came back in this manner or did I have to come in contact with the plant? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Can poison ivy scars cause a new break out 30 years later?
There is one of those that can come back. I had a friend that would break out every year the same time of year for years. With no contact with the plant. I think it was Posion Oak. It broke out when it was in season or blooming. See a determatologist.
Reply:You have to contact the plant oil.
Reply:Not that I've ever heard of.
Reply:no, but it sounds like contact dermatitis. think of anything new you've touched or used in the past week that is different from your usual routine.

How come Stanford isn't an Ivy League school?

I thought that the Ivy League schools were just the best most high standard schools, and considering that Stanford is one of the best, I'm surprized that it is not an Ivy League School. Is it not as good as the eight Ivy Leagues or does the "Ivy League" mean something different? Also, does wether the school is east coast or west coast matter when it comes to how good it is?

How come Stanford isn't an Ivy League school?
Ivy League isn't a league made of best schools in USA. As we know those schools ARE the best(every year in top 15), but the principle is different.

The moto of Ivy League is related to athletics: Student-Athletes need to excell outside classroom as much as inside of a classroom. Bassicaly, it meant the a student-athlete cannot join those schools without good academic background. This moto ensured that invested effort in any student would pay off.

You should also know that the Ivy League was meant to be a league of North-Eastern schools, which Stanford for example isn't.

Finally those 7 schools+Cornell (which is little younger) are way too older than Stanford (between 150 and 200 years). If you combine location and age it all goes against Stanford.
Reply:Because the Ivy League is an old football league. Really, that's all it means. It happens to contain some of the best schools, but definitely not all of them.
Reply:No, the Ivy League isn't just the best schools. It is an athletic conference, made up of a group of East Coast schools, many of which have remained excellent schools. However, it therefore doesn't include a number of other schools which may be just as good. MIT, for example, is NOT an Ivy League School. Nor is the University of Chicago, or Stanford, or a lot of other excellent schools, either because they didn't exist at the time the league was formed, or because they are not in the geographic area of the League.
Reply:The Ivy League is a set of eastern schools that all have a good reputation. Ivy League schools are not the top eight schools. MIT is near the top and it is in the East but it isn't an ivy league school either.

Most of the best schools are in the East. But, California and Chicago have also drawn some. Get the U.S. News and World Report College Ranking. It used to be online but now you either have to pay or go to the library.

Earnings for college graduates : Ivy League vs. State School?

I read an article in my Economics textbook that Ivy League graduates and State School graduates earn roughly the same salary for the same jobs, and that most Ivy League degrees are not worth the cost of high tuition. Is this true? What is your experience? What do employers really think of Ivy League grads?

Thank you for your input.

Earnings for college graduates : Ivy League vs. State School?
It also really depends on what state school you went to. If you happen to live in a state with a good state-college system (like California or Michigan) you're much better off going to a state school. I went to Berkeley and was able to do so without having to take out any loans, which probably wouldn't have been the case if I'd gone to an Ivy.

In terms of getting a job, esp. your first, having a prestigious school listed on your resume will at least get it looked at but it's really not going to make a difference in the amount of money that job offers you. And down the road, people are going to be looking more at your job performance and professional accomplishments more so than what school you attended years ago.

And actually there was a study done recently that found that CEOs tend to have attended state versus Ivy League schools. Wish I could find the link.....
Reply:The Ivy league school degree will be helpful in getting into your first job. After your first job though, it doesn't really matter so much. I'm on the hiring committee at a 2000+ employee company.
Reply:It really depends on what your future career goal is and where you want to live/work. an ivy league school will give you unparalleled access to important players in a variety of job areas and you will have a better chance of getting in with top businesses if you have an ivy league education. if you are looking to do something like say, education, it would not be worth the cost to go to an ivy league school (if, of course, you are paying full tuition). it is important to remember that in some areas such as business, the name of the school means everything for getting your foot in the door after that, it is up to you!
Reply:My friend went to Carnegie Mellon University and became in $120,000 in debt just for a bachelors degree but employers always have preference to hire him in comparison to someone from a state school. He started off with $40,00 working for a national bank, and moved on quickly in 1 year higher paid position based on his degree. He has nearly doubled his salary and working his way to get out of debt. He lived pretty poor his first year out of college.

Experience is the number one reason employers higher, they also look at personality and a strong drive to be successful, but education and learning abilities are a huge plus.
