I took my 16 months old son for walk in the woods yesterday, he was running around and fell in the grass area. I noticed there was a poison ivy vine, so I took him away imediatelly, but I don't know if he actually touched it or no. Today I checked him and he has few red bumps on his hands, but they don't look too bad and hasn't gotten any worse since this morning {it is noon now}. How fast would the rash appear if it was poison ivy? Also, I have a newborn baby, he was with us yesterday, but I don't think the older one had a chance to touch him before we got home, and once we got home, I washed his hands with the soap and warm water. Is the baby still in danger? Does soap get rid of the poison ivy oil on the hands?

Poison Ivy?
If I touched poison ivy (it is winter) this afternoon after school, is it possible, about 4 hours later for there to be a rash coming on?
I got scratched by a stick today, and there is a bump around where I got scratched. In my nieghbor's backyard, they used to have poison ivy, but they claim that it got rid of.
If you do think it is poison ivy...what should I do at this early of a stage?

I would think that it would be best to just slap some lotion on it and wait until it grows bigger/starts to itch. If it does either, ask your parents (if you're still living with them) if you can have your doctor take a look at it. That's pretty much all you can do.

Poison ivy, Toxicodendron radicans and T. rydbergii, are relatives of sumac, mango and cashews -- they're all in the Anacardiaceae. I'm not sure what "regular ivy" is to you, but I'll take a chance that it's English ivy, a relative of ginseng and Schefflera.
English ivy and poison ivy don't look anything alike:

Poison ivy problem?
i have poison ivy, i have it everywhere from my face down. but my main problem is my penis. it had poison ivy all over it, so i put a medicine on it thats suppost to dry out poison ivy, but then i woke up today, and one side of my penis is kinda swollen. any suggestions on what to do other than go to the doctor?

I am also very allergic to poison ivy. When I get it, it spreads very rapidly and I have never found any over the counter product that gets rid of it. Caladryl lotion will help with itching, but unfortunately will not dry it up or keep it from spreading. The only way I get rid rid of the rash is by getting an antihistamine injection and prescription cream from the doctor. I know that it is embarrassing to go to a doctor with it, but trust me it is worth it. And besides, I am sure that it is alot better than some things doctors see. In the mean time make sure to clean the areas and keep them covered with saran wrap to keep it from spreading and be sure to wash your hands often.

Im just about to start a new tank for my malowies as thay have out grown ther last one very quickly.
I am going to put all the old stones, plants and wood from my old tank in to my new one but that still leves me with a bit of space so i have found sum twisted old dead ivy branches in my local river that i think would look great. so my question is will the ivy harm my fish as i think ivy leavs are poisonous to animals but is the dead wood? I have washed it, scrubed it and boiled it but im still not shore if it is ok to use.
What do you think?

They're the schools that have been around longest and have well-established systems. They have lots of incoming money for all kinds of research and tons of tuition prices. Because they're so well-known, there are a LOT of people who apply, and few are accepted, making acceptance a special thing. Lots of rich people send their children there for the 'legacy' and the big name.
In reality, the education isn't incredibly better. Top professors and researchers go to those schools, but you won't be severely missing out by not going to an Ivy.
The biggest benefit is that the name of the Ivy will get you recognized and give you an extra buff on your resumes because you went there.
It's all about the names, basically.

My dad was telling me how none of the executives at his company went to a top school and how that somehow shows something about how your education isn't necessarily related to job success. But the thing is...everyone on his company's Board of Directors went to...guess where for school?

Does Ivy L. degree mean gauranteed employment?
Hello, I just have a question that I have always been wondering about. Does getting an Ivy League degree guarantee/almost guarantee a job after graduation? For instance, even if you majored in impractical majors like Medieval Studies, American Studies, Sociology, or Media Studies, are you sure to get # of job offers right out of graduation because it is Ivy League degree? Are there very few Ivy Leaguers unemployed in the society?

Harvard actually has one of the best Sociology departments in the nation and Sociology is one of the most versatile, useful degrees an undergraduate can obtain. It is not impractical like Medieval or Celtic Studies. It is one of the only degrees with which you apply to both law school and med school, not to mention go into pretty much any field. Like the other poster said, there are homeless people with degrees from Ivys. It certainly improves your chances of getting a job, in part because these old schools have large endowments and strong alumni networks. I completely disagree that any degree from a state school would give you better chances at a job than a Sociology, or most other degrees, from Harvard or any other Ivy. For many jobs at the end of the day it matters where your degree is from, not what you majored in. That is secondary.
For example, in California, a degree from San Diego State or CSU Long Beach means nothing compared to a degree from UCSD, UCLA, or Berkeley. Private schools like Pomona and Stanford, along with UCLA and UCB have programs that rival the 8 Ivys. I just don't think anyone could win with the argument that a degree from a state school is better than a degree from an Ivy. The job market is often about who your know and where you went.

the degree is just a proof of graduation. make sure you meet the right people along the way.
