My friend has had poison ivy for a whole week now and has it all over her face.at first we just put itching-cream on it....but now it is swelling on both cheeks SEVERLY!!She is almost to the point where she cant talk! And her mom cant get her into the doctors for a couple days!We dont hav any medicine that would realy help her but is there any suggestions on wat we can do to reduce the swelling and help get rid of the poison ivy???

My mom SWEARS by that aloe-vera gel for sunburns. Make sure you get the stuff with LIDOCAINE in it. All I can figure is the alcohol content is high enough to dry up the poison ivy, and the lidocaine numbs it enough to make it quit itching. She gets poison ivy every single year, and we could never get rid of it without taking her in for Decadron shots and dosing her on Benadryl for days. This clears it up wthin a few days...Now she won't use anything but the aloe gel! She's got her sister using it too!

Reply:Try the OTC PM medications - Advil PM or Tylenol PM. The PM ingredient is benadryl, an antiallergen. Poison ivy reaction is allergic.
