Ivy and creosote?

I am going to construct a garden fence out of reclaimed railwy sleepers however these have been creosoted in the past can i let ivy grow on them or will the creosote kill it

Ivy and creosote?
IVY IS A WILD PLANT %26amp; CAN GROW JUST ABOUT ANYWHERE...THEY`LL GROW LOVELY

MY DAD HAS IVY GROWING IN HIS GARDEN ON A TREATED TRELLIS..AS LONG AS THE SOIL ISNT CONTAMANATED THEY`LL GROW
Reply:It depends how long ago they were creosoted,if it was some time ago the ivy should be o.k.
Reply:Not much kills ivy..... the damned stuff.
Reply:CREOSOTE WILL NOT HURT PLANTS UNLESS YOU DRIP IT ON TO THE ROOTS BUT MOST PEOPLE USE FENCING PAINT NOW TO REDO FENCES AND GATES

Ivy League applications?

I am an Asian girl and i want to try my luck to get in one of the ivy leagues. I live in Hong Kong, but i go to an international school, and get very good grades.

Can someone tell me is it hard and will they bias students living in Asia instead of the United States? I am not an American citizen by the way.

Ivy League applications?
The Ivy league schools will welcome you. They try to build college communities filled with interesting students and adding a good student from Asia will be a bonus to them. Check out the admission requirements for international students and you should apply!

Ivy league school?

Has anyone attended an Ivy League school, if so did you like the experience?

Ivy league school?
I went to Harvard - and am still paying my loans off at 39. No question it opens doors once you graduate, but if I had it to do again, I would chosse a less expensive, less snobby institution. There is still a great deal of elitism at Ivy league universities.
Reply:I'm in New Haven right now doing summer research, and I love my school (apologies to any Cantabs, but you even admitted your school sucks =P)

I worked alumni reunions a few weeks ago and it was amazing to see how many bonds these people still share to travel back here and see old friends, as much as 65 years later, coming even from places like Hawaii and Dubai. Like anything else, though, college is what you make of it, no more and no less. I could have gone to other places for much less money, but this is where I felt most at home when I visited, and here I am now =)

We had someone advertise free ivy on the list. Ivy is a problem invasive weed here. Should this be acceptable?

We had a person offer ivy on the freecycle list for Seatlle. Ivy is a very big invasive weed problem here and should not be distrubuted. Shouldn't this type of giveaway be deemed inappropriate for freecycle?

yup you are right
Reply:It is a very invasive vine but why would it be inappropriate, just because it's free?.........Some people like it!
Reply:ivy isn't a weed, it's a vine. and if it's your list, why are you asking us what's inappropriate to be on it?

Ivy League Reqs.?

Well I want to apply to all Ivy League schools + stanford. What are like the SAT, G.P.A, and extra curricular activities that you need to have to stand a good chance. Thank you for your answers!

Ivy League Reqs.?
Why's your name Harvard grad? Wishful thinking?

Well, generally, you'd like a 3.9+ GPA unweighted. 2200+ SAT score. 2300 preferably.

Extra currics have to be unique. None of that president of a club or volunteered 150 hours garbage. I'm talking set up your own successful business, got a research grant from a recognized agency or group, top ranking in at least your state (if not nationally), 1st chair in a well known orchestra. That kind of stuff.

Don't forget letters of rec where every word (literally) is gushing about you. People have gotten denied because one sentence praising the student didn't absolutely gush about them (pretty ridiculous, but it has happened).

Your essay needs to be compelling as well.
Reply:Probably have to be in the top %10 of your high school, meaning GPA around at least 3.8 unweighted GPA. I'm not really familiar with new SATs.
Reply:Dont get scared. The max score of the SAT is 1600. Get a 1250 or 1300 or above and you stand a chance. Have a GPA above 3.6. Have extracurricular and volunteer activities. Have a passion for your chosen profession and communicate that in the entry essay. Score well on you ACT. Apply early. Have a good interview. Promote your awards and accomplishments in your application.

Ivy League Admissions?

Which Ivy League schools can I get into with a 2010 SAT 30 ACT and a 3.8 GPA Class Rank Top 10%?

Ivy League Admissions?
With no additional information other than the tidbit of stat you posted, your chances are slim at all Ivy League schools.

If 3.8 is your unweighted average; your GPA would be average. If it is weighted, then your GPA would be way below average.

Your ACT and SAT are also below average at all Ivy League schools.

At the current situation, your best chances lies at Cornell, the easiest Ivy League school to gain admittance into. Even at Cornell, your chances are pretty low.

Unless you have/are: a nationally ranked athlete/Math Olympiad/Chemistry Olympiad/Science Olympiad/Siemens talent search/Intel talent search/etc/or under represented minority, it is time for you to aim lower.

Choose a couple top 20 schools as your goals, then apply downward.

Good luck in your college search and application process. Remember that Ivy League is not the end of the line. You will still be successful if you graduate elsewhere.

Types of English Ivy?

I have recently bought what appears to be two different types of English Ivy... one is short, or "low lying", and one is taller and has larger darker leaves. The labels at the store both say English Ivy but they look different. I would prefer to grow the one that climbs buildings and does not have flowers. Do you know the difference or are these the same? Thanks.

Types of English Ivy?
Without seeing them, it is kind of hard to tell what they are. Here are a few ivy links that may help you though. It looks like the Boston Ivy may be the one that sticks to buildings. The other two appear to be used for ground cover. The leaf shape is very similar.

Help with Poison Ivy!?

Well, it started out as a very small itch on my arm. Then the next day my chin started itching. The next day it was all over my face, on my arms, and on my side. We went to the doctor the day after that because my eye was almost swollen shut. They gave me some Prednisone, but it doesn't seem to work that well, but it made the swelling go down. Oddly, I haven't got any blisters, but I have red splotches all over my face...

After we went to the hospital and found out they didn't know what it was, when I got home I realised that my dog must have given me poison ivy. She runs through weeds and the woods almost everyday, and then she lays on me. I need some help, does anyone know a way to make the red splotches go away faster?

My itching has stopped a lot since I put hot water on my face, but when I put ice cubes on it tiny bumps popped up all over. Anyone know why? Also, is the poison ivy still contagious?

Help with Poison Ivy!?
Don't touch it. You may be spreading it by touching and scratching. Cover it with Caladryl or Benadryl topical. There is a clear gel you can get at the drugstore and I think it's called Caladryl.

Be very careful with the medicine you take for it, even the topical meds that you put on your skin. Follow the directions very carefully and don't use Benadryl pills and the cream at the same time. This combo could make you very sick.
Reply:Yes, poison ivy is contagious, if other people in your house are allergic. You must be very careful with hand towel sharing, touching, etc. A steroid shot would work faster than prednisone pills. At least, that is what is sounds like you have is pills. Other than that, apply rubbing alcohol to dry out the spots and apply benadryl cream to help with itching, swelling, and redness.
Reply:Stay on the Prednisone, go to the doctor he'll give you a steroid to boost your immune system, and try swimming in a pool with chlorine (it helps dry it out)

It can still spread on your body, but only be given to someone else via touching the actual oils from when you got the poison
Reply:The liquid from poison ivy is contagious. You must first wash rash with soap and water to get rid of urushiol to prevent rash, then apply alcohol to dry it up. You can use Calamine lotion or witch hazel to stop itch.
Reply:Okay I've been there sweetie=]

I got mine from summer camp.

Well basically like they say , time is the best medicine.

But in the mean time go to your local drug store and get Calagel.

Its really good stuff and you can feel it cooling.

And it about 1 or 2 weeks it will be gone =]

good luck!!!
Reply:I have never gotten it but my old roomate used to get it really really bad. I used calamine lotion and took epsom salt bathes...other than that he pretty much layed on the ground practially naked and had a fan running on him...
Reply:did the doctor give you some kind of cream? sorry that sounds awful. feel well. Check this

Reply:You should rub ur face with red oil(palm oil) and you will b alrite!
Reply:call your doctor
Reply:The product is called Dr West's Poison Ivy Skin Cleanser. Yesterday I was wood cutting and forgot about some poison ivy on my left side of where I was cutting. When I awoke this am I knew immediatly why a hand sized spot on my left fore arm was inflamed and itching like mad. I had bought some of Dr Wests product about 2 years ago and it seemed to work then on smaller instances of poison ivy. I was not sure about the shelf life so now was the real challenge. So, I treated the large area on my arm about 10 times within 45 minutes this morning. As I write this the poison ivy is almost totally gone except for a little redness. IT TOTALLY WORKS! From what I remember this product just deactivated the oils in the poison ivy and does it naturally. The phone number on the bottle I have is 18774DRWEST or you can find it in this list:

http://poisonivy.aesir.com/view/commerci...

I find it amazing how cures to things come along and unless they are 'blessed' by the medical community they do not see the light of day.

I will be keeping this stuff in my medicine cabnet. Good luck!
Reply:If it is in fact poison ivy reaction, it is not contagious. You get the reaction after contact with the oils on the plant. It can and will spread on your body once the reaction is present, but touching someone else after the oils have already been removed will only gross them out. They will not get the rash unless they come into contact with the plant oils themselves. Now if you touch the plant then touch another person, you may pass the oils on. But after you wash your hands, bathe, shower etc you will not have the oils on you. If you feel you have been in contact with the oils, immediatly wash with warm soap and water to remove the oils before you develope a rash.

My husband need a shot of a medical steriod and took some medications perscribed. It took a few months to get him normal again because the rash was extremely progressed and "all over".

Good luck!

Ivy league???
The Ivy League, often referred to as the Ancient Eight, is a group of elite universities in the northeast of the U.S. It comprises Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, Cornell, Columbia, Brown, and Penn.
Reply:The Ivy League is an athletic conference comprising eight private institutions of higher education located in the Northeastern United States. The term is most commonly used to refer to those eight schools considered as a group. The term also has connotations of academic excellence, selectivity in admissions, and a reputation for social elitism.

I am a Cornell man myself.

Can anyone list the ivy league Physical therapy schools? Is Columbia the only one??

Ivy League Physical Therapy Schools?
Well, I forget which are technically the Ivy league schools, but you can get a list of all programs at: http://www.apta.org and go to the education programs section. Seems I knew them fairly recently, but I have forgotten. It would be easiest just to look at the list of all the schools

Ivy League Chance?

Is there a possibility of getting accepted to an Ivy Lea. school and if so, where would be my best bet so that I can narrow my applications to those schools.

- 30 ACT (a weak point)

- class rank is 1/132 - valedictorian

- GPA = 4.0 GPA weighted = 5.0

highest possible level of classes offered - honors

- clubs

rotary interact, yearbook (technology editor), national honor sociey, St. Vincent DePaul, Saturday Scholars

-awards

elected among 600 students to participate in leadership conference, principals award, winner of Youth Salute, other leadership functions

-community service

volunteer at hospital, bring easter/christmas meals to poor each year, provide gifts at Christmas each year

- others

varsity tennis(captain), varsity golf, guitar, small enterprising lawn business

-employment (whether it matters)

Quarry Golf Course

- recs from 2 teachers and Sr. Manager of Budweiser corporation in st. louis

-the usual hopeful essay

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Ivy League Chance?
The easiest Ivy League school to get into is Cornell, whose median ACT score is 28-32, so a 30 won't hurt you. (I'm just going to go down your list.) Rank obviously helps you. GPA seems just about perfect. You seem to be in a lot of clubs and have plenty of awards. For community service, I'd need to know how many hours you volunteered. That's as important as what you volunteered to do. Sports teams are a plus. Most schools require 2 recommendations, but a third isn't a plus or a minus. I am a bit curious about the way a college will react to seeing a minor with a recommendation from Anheiser-Busch, but I don't know your connection to the person who wrote the recommendation. As for your essay, I don't know what you wrote, so I can't comment.

Conclusion: Let me put it this way; I got into Cornell and my resume is nowhere nearly as impressive as yours. I can honestly say that you can definitely get into an Ivy League school.
Reply:Wow, do you care about finding a good fit, or do you care about the name? You might want to ask yourself that question before you ask other people what Ivy League school you have the best shot at getting into. I ended up getting into a pretty well-known Ivy League school (cough, cough), but I ultimately found that if I had decided to go there, I would have hated it.
Reply:what are your SAT/ACT scores, if there as high as your grades then you should have a chance of getting accepted. esp, if your valedictorian. congrats and good luck

How do i kill poison ivy plants?

How do i kill poison ivy plants without using round up? Because it is so toxic? We live on 40acres of woods. MY brother has poison ivy and sumac, and it was a real wake up call for us to be more cautious. Does anyone know how to kill poison ivy and/or sumac and oak plants without using something as toxic as Round up? That would be great! Thank you!

How do i kill poison ivy plants?
Actually RoundUp is not a dangerous product. Any that is not absorbed by the leaves starts to biodegrades as soon as it is sprayed.

We have used it in concentrated form for poison ivy with great success. Otherwise the only really effective way is to remove it by digging up the roots. This is not a fun job.

Go ahead and use the RoundUp, it is really safe. I know there are those who rant against any chemical but we have used RoundUp for over 12 years and the plant, animal, bird and insect population on our property is more abundant now than when we purchased the property.
Reply:My Dad is really allergic to poison Ivy so I can share with you our experience. We wear gloves and cut the the plants off at the bottom of the plant. Then we spray with round up. The round up kills everything
Reply:Used motor oil in a spray bottle. spray onto the leaves and it will cause them to die. Remember to re-spray as new leaves grow it will take some time but it will work

Community college to ivy leauge? (or close to it..?)?

i'm thinking about instead of applying straight to college of maybe staying home and going to community college for a year to get my grades up, now i know ivy leagues don't usually accept transfer students but i was wondering how i would go about the whole community college to a 'close to ivy leauge' school. i would really like to start as a freshman at that school.. is that possible? any info on this would be great

ps i am planning on going to nursing school if that helps!

Community college to ivy leauge? (or close to it..?)?
I have a friend that did two years at community college an then transfered to Georgetown. He's now a prof at an Ivy League school. (He's also very smart, very motivated, and good at what he does)

Why would you go to an Ivy for nursing school? You really should research the best nursing schools, particularly if you have a special area of interest, and then ask their admissions departments what their policies are concerning transfers.

Getting Rid of Ivy?

We have some regular Ivy at our house. It is creeping everywhere. Is there a spray or some good technique I can use to get rid of it?

I'd like a green alternative, something organic and environmentally friendly but I'll accept any advice and tips.

Also it can't kill other plants cause we have a beautiful lilac and fig tree that the ivy is surrounding.

Getting Rid of Ivy?
unfortuanately once ivy gets hold it is almost impossible to eradicate; the best is by hand, however any tiny bit left in will grow new; i would try what i could get out by hand %26amp; digging (wear gloves); %26amp; then be sure to snip any you see right in the bud when it starts again; you can try putting straight vinegar directly on it only; however, it will kill any %26amp; all other things in the area it is sprayed on; that is why i recommend grubbing it out by hand;
Reply:There was a huge patch of ivy separating my house from the neighbor's house. About half of it died, randomly, but the other portion was pulled up by hand, about 3 or 4 years ago, and it hasn't been back since.
Reply:The only way i killed the ivy on my house was cut it just above ground level leave it to die and dig the roots out it works in the end

THE ivy above will pull away easy later !!

Ivy League?

Well, I have a 3.1 GPA unrecalculated. I scored a 35 on the ACT and got a perfect on the SAT. I don't do much homework in school so my GPA is low, but my test scores in school are great. I have taken APs and honors(quite a few). I played varsity soccer freshmen and sophmore year but not this year. I played freshmen basketball. I co-founded model UN and a stock investing club. I have over a 100 hours of volunteer work at Beaumount hospital. Do I think I can still make it to an ivy league?

Ivy League?
The admissions committee will be able to tell that you are "lazy" based on your test scores vs. your GPA. They usually don't admit "lazy" students, so I would rethink your college strategy. If you bring up your GPA with APs, you can almost certainly get into UM Ann Arbor, which is an excellent school--why not do that?
Reply:list "philanthropist" for parent's occuparion. you will be selected immediately. just make sure you have the $$$ for that new building they need.
Reply:I think the 3.1 kills your chances. I don't really know how your school calculates GPA but that is low either way. I'd imaging that the admissions councilors will see your AP, ACT, and SAT scores and realize that you are just lazy (hate to be so blunt). In college its all about working harder than the others so that is a real big negative. Still, your numbers are impressive enough that its worth at least trying one, like Cornell (statistically the easiest to get into). If you don't get in, work your tail off year one of college, then transfer.
Reply:Seriously doubt it. Something doesn't add up - something is seriously amiss if you only have a 3.1 GPA and you are doing perfect in standardized tests. On one hand, you don't do very well on tests, on the other, you do perfect. That over time, you are a B-average student, but on a completely level playing field on a one-shot test, you are perfect?

The only way to get that sort of statistic is if you purposely tanked your classes, or you're lying about your standardized scores.

I call BS, and so will the Ivys.
Reply:Your perfect scores and volunteer work aside, you tell use you are lazy. Why do you want to go to an Ivy League then? You're intelligent, for sure, but getting in is one thing; doing the work and doing it well is another.

Are you intending to become less lazy with your schoolwork in college or do you just want to get into an Ivy? Like another poster said, admissions will think you are lazy, just as you have said yourself, and they may think you are not an asset to the school.

I think you should seriously consider where you want to go and why, and not just because of the name of the school. I think every college information site says this, but go for your match. You will be better off that way.

Ivy League?

What are the chances of someone being accepted into an Ivy League college with only a GED and maybe an Associates degree? Transfer programs?

Ivy League?
You can figure this out by looking at a few statistics on line. For instance, each of the Ivy League schools (plus Duke, Stanford, UChicago) enrolls about 1500 kids as Freshman each year. According to the stats on princetonreview.com or US News, these schools have about 97 - 98% retention rate from Freshman to Sophomore. So that means only about 30 kids leave the class. So, that's how many spaces they have for kids to transfer in.

A friend at Brown told me they have about 400 apps for transfer each year. Most of those are from kids at other elite schools or kids who were waitlisted at Brown orginally and still want to get in. Brown and the other Ivies would check the applications to see which kids would fit in best, can afford the costs, and have done the best on the toughest courses at their other school. The number of CC kids who would be admitted would be extremely small. They would have to make a really strong case for themselves to beat this 10% aceptance ratio and get a seat. I'd bet that not more than 5 or 6 total are accepted at all the Ivies put together.

There are plenty of other schools that are really good schools that have a lot more open spaces and would be much easier to get into. Check the US News top 100 ranked universities and you will find a long list of very highly respected schools where there is a realistic chance of transfer admission. Schools like Fordham, Syracuse, North Carolina State, Rochester. Those are good schools and you wouldhave a real chance of getting in.

Good Luck.
Reply:You'll still need to submit SAT scores BTW, so while you can sideskirt that process through your state college via community college transfer, it's not the same everywhere else.
Reply:Not big.

Ivy league law schools...?

i know its a bit early to be thinking about college but im very serious about my studies. i am starting HS in september..and i want to know what classes i have to take in HS in order to apply for ivy league law schools (i.e harvard, yale, princeton, etc) i dont want to be in my senior year when i find out i should have take 4 years of a language when i only took 2 years of language...please let me know any other classes that i have to take in order to apply for these schools...

p.s. if ur gonna make fun of me cuz im thinking about college now..please dont bother answering because im really serious about this...thanks. :-)

Ivy league law schools...?
Um, Princeton famously doesn't have a law school.

The "ivy league" of law schools are the top 14 law schools as determined by US News. These schools haven't moved out of the top 14 since US News started ranking law schools. Here's this year's order:

1) Yale

2) Harvard and Stanford

4) NYU

5) Columbia

6) Chicago and Penn

8) UC-Berkeley and U Michigan

10) Duke and UVA

12) Northwestern

13) Cornell

14) Georgetown

Note that of that list only Yale, Harvard, Columbia, Penn and Cornell are officially Ivy League Schools--and many schools outrank Cornell.

*Climbs off high horse*

You don't have to worry about taking certain courses in high school in order to get into law school. Just take what you need to get into the college of your choice. Once you get into college, there are still no specific prerequisitesto get into an elite law school. Acceptance is based mostly on GPA and your LSAT scores.
Reply:Good for you. Its refreshing to see young adults such as yourself taking serious intrest in a career.
Reply:hehe that is good you are serious. What you should be looking to do is take the hardest courses possible with the highest grades possible. You will be competing against some of the highest gpa's in the nation. Not only GPA's but you need EC's. You should be looking to take the general 4 years of english. Enroll in every AP course that is possible at your school. Your gpa should not be below a 4.2 and a 3.8 if you are on a 4. scale for all courses

I'm assuming you are looking to go to an ivy out of high school and then to law school.

Here is a word of advice for high school.. Have fun! Don't get too worked up about going to the IVY LEAGUE school because truthfully there are many other great programs out there.
Reply:You don't go to an Ivy League Law School out of HS. You need to get an undergrad first. You should speak to your school's (HS) Guidance Counselor. They should start you on the right path.

Ivy league = the single mom?

Can it be done? With the scholastic demands of an ivy league university, basically having to ingest books morning, noon and night.......

I'm having doubts about myself and my ability.

Is there anybody out there in a similar situation? Know someone who is? Do u attend one and have an opinion?

Ivy league = the single mom?
My question is... why not?

You know what you and your child will gain from this. What do you stand to lose if you don't go through this? You can make this work. Keep your head up high, and no matter how difficult school may be, think about the alternative, life would be much harder if you give up. There's only one way to go... go up and forward.
Reply:Ivy league schools are not really that much more rigorous than other institutions when it comes to undergraduate studies. In fact, most of the prestige of the Ivy league schools comes from research and graduate studies. You really shouldn't have that much trouble with the work load. Why not consider going part time to start?
Reply:You can do it!

It may be a lot, and this is a strange question for me to answer, but I'm an ivy league student right now (Brown) and there were some "untraditional students" in one of my lectures that I talked to... and they were able to keep up just fine with school AND with their families.

They were intimidated also, but classes will take the same amount of time anywhere, homework may be challenging to find time for (but you can do it), and you might find the time to study to be difficult, but you shouldn't be scared!

Ivy League universities have lots of resources, so if you need some extra help to get your work or studying done more efficiently, there are plenty of people there!

PLUS, all of my professors have been really helpful and understanding anytime I have needed an extension.

My mom (single mom of 3) went back to school when I was in junior high and she graduated college when I graduated high school and it was AWESOME.

I completely encourage you to accept the challenge and achieve what the university felt you had the ability to do... no one thought you could do it, this opportunity would not have been presented to you.

Best of luck!

Transferring from Community College to Ivy League?

Is it still possible to go to an Ivy League...if you start out at a community college?

I heard that the Ivy Leagues usually don't take transfers as much as freshman?

BTW, GPA is between 3.7 to 3.8, and still have other classes to take, so I still can make my GPA higher score.

SATs...well, my previous %26amp; current education (including a tech school, classes at 2-year private college, and now a community college) never required them. So I ended up building all my college credits without any SATs. Plus some universities have told me that I won't need SATs because of all my college credits and being out of high school for over 10 years.

So, considering where I'm tranferring from, my GPA, and my SATs situation, can I still get into an Ivy League?

(Not that I have to...just want to know if it's possible.)

Transferring from Community College to Ivy League?
I think it is possible but it will be hard. You may want to finish your bachelor's degree and then try to get into an Ivy League school for your graduate work. Also, try doing extra activities. Schools don't just look at your GPA but also how well rounded your are. With a little determination anything can happen.
Reply:I don't think and Ivy League school would accept community college students.
Reply:yea it is possible...u have to hav a high GPA...othe extracuricular activities n lots of money
Reply:YES! It can be done, and has been done.

If you are the first generation in your family to attend college, and if you are a member of an underrepresented minority group, here's the key to achieving your goals:

http://eter.vassar.edu/

It's called "Exploring Transfer," and it is THE best way for community college students to successfully achieve and prepare for transfer to top-tier universities and liberal arts colleges.

There are also other transfer-oriented programs run by elite colleges and universities. Contact your university of interest to see if they have one.

Best wishes to you!
Reply:i don't know hun.....i think you need a 4.0 GPA.....but don't give up....your GPA is 3.7 to 3.8, what else do have? Do you belong to any clubs, the school newspaper etc.....maybe you're working and going to school.......try getting letters of reccomendations from your professors, Deans etc....good luck

Question about Poison ivy?

I think i might got poison ivy i have not scratched it look a bit like a red rash . If its poison ivy and i just leave it will it just go away ?I don't feel any pain. And i don't feel like i need to scratched it

Question about Poison ivy?
if it's posion ivy you'll get a blistering rash. try using calomine lotion or anything containing benzocaine to keep from itching it. Iching will make it worse definatly. It sounds like you are thinking posion ivy which makes u think it itches more than it does. Try taking your mind off it for awhile. Wash the areas with soap and water and any other area you might think would of come in contact to the poision ivy or the current rash. It could be an allergic reaction to anything at this time unless you know u touched posion ivy. Try benedryl if you cannot remember coming into contact with posion ivy
Reply:yea u just need to put sum anti biotic or that pink lotion stuff on 2 help it heal quicker nd make sure it want start itching
Reply:get some calmine lotion. it is pink and put it on with a cotton ball and it dries it up! had it b4 too!

Question about poison ivy?

I saw all of the answers all of you guys left for other answers on how to get rid of poison ivy. Thanks. But what should I do about the orangy-puss stuff that is seeping outta my blisters? Should I wipe it up with a rag? I was told not to so that I don't spread the poison. Any ideas? Btw, what is that stuff? Is it the oils from the poison or is it my body producing stuff to kill it? Thanks for all your guys' answers about how to get rid of poison ivy.

Question about poison ivy?
3 things.

Use hydrocortizone 1% (over the counter) or prescription.

Very hot water kills the itch but try not to burn yourself.

Keep it covered so you don't spread it.

Also wash clothes, bedding and pets to make sure no residual ivy resin is able to spread

I should know I've had it that bad!

Good luck
Reply:The fluid that oozes from the blisters is NOT contagious and will not spread the rash. Once you have washed all the urushiol (the chemical in the oil that causes the allergic reaction) off then you shouldn't get anymore. The fluid is not the "poison" from the plant. The fluid, blisters, redness and swelling are caused by your body sending out histamine and white blood cells out to fight the invader (the urushiol is actually harmless but your immune system misinterprets it as a threat). Make sure you keep the area clean. I've found that calamine lotion works well. It doesn't do much for the itching and burning but it helps dry up the oozing and weeping. In addition to washing the oil of your body don't forget to wash things like clothes, shoes or anything else that may have come into contact with the plants.
Reply:If you want to "clean up" the seepage...blot it with a kleenex or something disposable...and get rid of that blotter as soon as you have "mopped up" that stuff is very spreadable. Believe me...I know first hand.

Wash your hands thoroughly after the blotting...wrap the area if possible that is weeping.
Reply:That orangy stuff is probably the oil from the plant itself and some stuff your body has made to fight against it and get rid of it. Ive had poison ivy before many times in my life and the best thing I found to do was to actually drain the blisters using a heat-sterilized needle to just poke a hole for them to drain. This not only alleviates the pain, but I also found that it stopped spreading. Dont rub over it with a rag cause that will spread it. Try taking Benadryl to dry it up. Also, a mixture of Clorox bleach and water (50/50 or weaker) worked also to kill it. Maybe this will help. If nothing else, go to the doc and get a shot to get rid of it if its real severe. The blisters you have are actually the reaction your body has to the oil on your skin, so yes, your body is trying to fight it. Like I said earlier, the orangy stuff is probably the oil itself plus some stuff your body has made to help fight it. Hope this works.

Ivy league schools?

Has anyone on this (honestly) gone to an Ivy League College? Yale, Harvard, Princeton...etc. If so, how hard is it to get accepted in? Also, if you are in, is school hard? What is your major?

Ivy league schools?
I know this guy who was in my school who went to Yale. He was incredible! He was the first of his class from freshman year to senior year! He played sports, and joined school plays. Family backgroud also helped him get into that college.

My friend's brother(also was in my school) went to Stanford. He was number one in 11th grade and 12th grade. His freshman and sophomore year.. he wasn't the BEST though. He joined many extracurricular activities... especially the school play, which he was very good at! Now, his family background was probably what helped him get into Stanford... His father is a doctor and his mother went to Princeton! I forgot to mention that he got a high 700 in his SATs. Good Luck!!
Reply:I did not go to these schools, but I know several recent high school graduates who have attended Harvard, Dartmouth, UPenn and Brown.

Yes, it is very hard to be accepted at these schools. Princeton, for example, accepts less than 10% of applicants, and you have to believe that MOST of the people who apply are fairly qualified individuals.

Re: whether school is hard, I imagine the answer is: it depends. It depends on how smart you really are, how well prepared you were based on your high school education and workload, and what you do to make it all come together in college.

My eldest son is not at an Ivy, but is at a top-rated school and he isn't finding it hard. Other students he knows are finding it much more difficult. There are no doubt various reasons for the discrepancy, including those I cited above.

My son is going to declare his major in Math.

Getting into an Ivy League school?

I have a very good GPA and a respectable SAT score for a good college (just below a 2000 on my first time). I'm very involved and hopefully a 'well-rounded person'. Does anyone have any tips for getting into an Ivy League school with these kind of scores? If you are in an Ivy League school, could you tell me how you think you got into your school? (I'm especially hoping to hear from Cornell students)

Getting into an Ivy League school?
it's all about who you know. around a 2000 and a good GPA with knowing the right people can get you anywhere you want.

I just got into Cornell, Columbia, and Brown with a 3.8 and 2060 SATs and a 30 ACT
Reply:I don't know what a good GPA means to you, but for an Ivy you are probably going to need a 4.0 and up. Also, you will need a minimum score of 2100 on the SAT I, but closer to a 2200 if you can. I would take as many AP's as you can, and get your GPA as high as you can. Also, I would suggest retaking the SAT I and try for a 2150. I don't know how you did on SAT II, but you will need at least a 700 in all 3 subjects for the Ivies.
Reply:Cornell, being the reject of Ivy Leagues is not as difficult to get in as all the rest. You should be more specific in terms of a good average. Hopefully at least a 3.9 or 4.0. Just below a 2000 simply will not due. To have a fighting chance, I suggest at least a 2200. If you really are a "well-rounded" person, with my suggestions, a successful interview, and a killer admissions essay, you have a pretty good chance.
Reply:extracurrlicular activities. more than a 4.0, be in leadership, be invlolved, sports,
Reply:Make sure to have a very good and focused personal essay

Ivy Capable???!!?

Good enough to get into an ivy school, such as Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Cornell, Dartmouth, or Brown? OR maybe even NYU??

GPA: 3.8- working on it

By the time high school ends, I will have taken these classes and have done these extracurrics for this many years….

8 AP classes

8 advanced classes

2 languages

~Varsity Golf team (4 years, but played for 7), and clinics, camps, and tournaments

~Martial arts black belt (4 years, but did for 7), 5 diff types of classes, each 2x a week

~JV Lacrosse (2 yrs)

~violin (4 years, but did for 9, over 17 concerts)

~piano lessons (2 yrs)

~college classes

~work experience

~a lot of volunteer work

~Latin Club (3 yrs)

~French Club (3 yrs)

~member of DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution, for 2.5 years)

~newspaper staff of school (2 yrs)

What do you think to tell the truth??? And any insight from a attendee or alumni of one of these schools would be great. Thanks to all!!

Ivy Capable???!!?
Hmm, well your resume sounds very nice, however, I'm not sure what your umweighted gpa is, aas long as its 3.6+ then you're in good shape. Also, you need to have atleast 2000s range on your SAT to be safe. However, having tons of clubs, good grades and bad essay or bad recommendations will limit your chances. So work hard on your essay and have have recommendations! Hmm, I wouldn't apply to Dartmouth if I were you, its not up to par as the others school eventhough its Ivy league. Why not Wash U St. Louis, or UC-Berkeley? Good luck
Reply:I think your extracurriculum is probably good enough, but what also counts is your SAT, GPA, and college admission essay and interview.

For Harvard, 95% of the student body is at the top 10 percent of their graduating class [College Board] (meaning 4.6 or higher --at my school at least), so you might need to improve more GPA wise.

But I still think you have a small chance since you have a lot of extra curricular activities to make up for it.
Reply:SAT? are your grades weighted?

i would bet youd get into at least one.. NYU is the easiest of them all, I believe

Help with poison ivy?

ok i got this darn poison ivy and now it is really bothering me "go figure right lol" anyways i have it all over the left side of my face, left ear, head "im bald" just under my nose, left and right forarms and a little on my leg. i know alot of people say use oatmeal or something but mine is all over and in alot of places. alsi i currently have caladryl, some anti-itch oinment, and ivy-dry. it dont really itch and when it does i can handle that, my problem is this nast guuuuuu stuff that wont stop coming. i have had this real bad since sunday and it hasnt stopped. it oozes from my left cheek and my ear. it is like a nasty yellowish color, i tried to cover it "with a band-aid" but there is so much it goes thru and continues to fall down my face. i dont have insurance so i dont really want to go to docs/hospital. plz help i need this nasty stuff to quit coming out.

Help with poison ivy?
If you know you had contact with one of the plants, immediately wash areas of the skin that may have touched the plant. Sometimes the rash can be completely avoided by washing the affected areas with plenty of water within 10 or 15 minutes of contact. However, most people have up to 4 hours to wash the plant oil off before a reaction occurs. 2 Clothing should also be thoroughly washed immediately. Contaminated surfaces should be cleaned with rubbing alcohol.

To relieve itching and help blisters dry out, apply wet compresses or soak the area in cool water. Antihistamine pills or calamine lotion may help relieve symptoms.

To prevent infection, try not to scratch the rash and cut your fingernails short to minimize the possibility of opening the skin and spreading bacteria.

_______________________________

Antihistamine pills such as diphenhydramine hydrochloride (nonprescription: for example, Benadryl) or hydroxyzine hydrochloride (prescription: for example, Atarax, Rezine) help relieve itching and dry blisters.

Corticosteroid pills may be used to treat a moderate or severe rash. These prescription medications help improve or clear up the rash more quickly. Prescription corticosteroid creams, ointments, shots, or gels may also be used, but pills are usually more effective.

Barrier creams and lotions help prevent the plant oil (urushiol) from coming in contact with the skin or reduce the severity of a reaction. These creams vary in their potency and are not always effective.

You may be able to use a product that dissolves urushiol, such as Tecnu Poison Oak-N-Ivy Cleanser, an organic solvent. These products may reduce the severity of your reaction if used up to 48 hours after exposure.

The most common complication of poison ivy, oak, or sumac rash is a secondary infection, usually caused by scratching. When this occurs, your health professional will probably prescribe a type of topical antibiotic cream if the infection is in a small area. Otherwise, you may need systemic antibiotics, given by injection or prescription pills. 1

What To Think About

The following medications should not be used for poison ivy, oak, or sumac rash, because they can cause allergy problems of their own:

Antihistamines applied to the skin (such as Benadryl cream, spray, or gel; Dermamycin)

Anesthetics applied to the skin containing benzocaine (such as Americaine, Anacaine, Lanacane, Bicozene)

Antibiotics containing neomycin sulfate (such as Neosporin, Neo-Rx, Mycifradin, Poly-Pred)

___________________________________
Reply:camameal cream in the pink bottle is the best stuff in the world, and to help with the itcky even more take some over the counter Benadryl to help fight the itcky from the inside.

Also there is a bath treatment with oatmeal, not the kind you eat, it comes in little packs and you just soak in the warm tub, with a wash rag on your face. this will help I have done this method for a long time my son somehow find the oak every year,
Reply:Have you tried using talcum powder? Anything that has a steroid base should help to clear it up, too.
Reply:You do know what to DO with the oatmeal, right? It's not just for eating... you make a paste of it and put it on all the affected areas, and then sit and wait for it to dry - completely - before scraping it off, and repeating.

Poison ivy affects the body through an oil. The oil is spread over the skin by our own sweat, and is very difficult to break down. I would probably use then dish soap for the oil, and then alcohol for the infection, and it would hurt a lot for a couple of minutes, but at least it wouldn't be spreading any further.

If it spreads into your eye, you could go blind. It might be worth going to see a doctor. If you won't do that, then you definitely need to get it under control.
Reply:I use Ivy Dry. It stinks, but nothing works better.
Reply:KEEP THIS AWAY FROM EYES!! make a mixture of 1/3rd bleach %26amp; 2/3rds water ; dab on area a few times a day, any Raw areas will burn like hell. but this will dry it all up in a short period of time. my friend is extreeemly alergic to ivy%26amp;oak yet he still goes hunting every year and he always carries some with him.
Reply:Okay, sounds like it is becoming infected. You really have to be careful because this infection posions the blood and then it can turn into infatiga and rumatic fever.

Take oatmeal and get it wet and use as a poultice (compress) on the areas. You can also put it in the tub loose, but don't soak for more than 20 mins. Use quacker rolled oats.

Go to health store and purchase Tea Tree Lotion. This is antibiotic, antiimflammatory, antioxidant and anti-bacterial. Now I know they are going to try to get you to use something else, but trust me on this one. My husband and best friend are highly allergic and both have had the other two things I mentioned b/c it became such a state. The tea tree will kill it immediately and dry it up and heal it.

You need to take benedril if you can, this will help fight it internally and keep you comfortable from itching.

The tea tree will keep the discomfort away too. Try to stay out of the sun if possible and any where that is hot, this only irritates it more.

If you lack being able to find the Tea Tree lotion go to www.dandesoap.com, she carries the lotion and soap and the cost is less than $10. You need to keep this on hand always. If you have been working around it, you can wash with the soap and apply the lotion and the mess will not even take hold. You poor thing...My husband has suffered so many times until I got this for him and now we do our yard worry free.

PS: Drink Chamomile tea and you can cleanse the areas with it. It fights infection, takes away the pain and helps speed healing too. You can drink it to desensitize the nerves and take down inflammation and help you to sleep restfully.

Best to you.
Reply:Honestly, it sounds like you are doing what needs to be done. If you were to go to a medical clinic, they offer discounts for uninsured people. Call and ask the price. They would give you a corticosteroid to take orally for a few days, they work pretty fast, and well. Otherwise, ride it out. I wouldn't use adhesive, use gauze fluffs and tape gauze to gauze. Don't itch, and wash your hands before and after you use the toilet. You don't want to experience that rash in the delicate regions!! FYI future exposure-burning poison ivy can leave you to inhale the bad stuff, and you can get the rash orally and in the respiratory system, also all over your body. Take care to protect yourself!!
Reply:If you cut an orange in half and rub the juice side on the rash, the citrus will dry up the ooze. Of course, you will have to repeat the application a number of times. Try this before bed so you won't be touching it. Natural remedies are best. There are no side effects or long term body damage like prescription drugs. You might also want to wash your hands as many times a day as you can to keep from spreading it to other areas. Change your towels or use paper to dry. After a shower, wash your towel every time. The stuff spreads like wild fire and is very contageous.
Reply:All the above are great ideas. The oatmeal bath is called Aveeno Oatmeal Bath. When you take a bath, try to make the water cool because the hotter the water is the worse it itches. You can get it at wal-mart or any other store. The caladryl clear works good as well as the pink stuff. Also the benadryl is good advice. I had it so bad once I had to get a cordisone shot and it still took 2 weeks doing the baths and the cover up stuff before it went away. As long as you have washed the clothes you wore when you got it, you are not contagious and it takes a few days to stop spreading. Good Luck!
Reply:calamine lotion works really well it is a pink lotion put it all over and it will dry the pus
Reply:cold compresses will help the itch, but the oozing you need calamine lotion for that (hope i spelled that right) It will dry up some of the ooze you are talking about

Ivy League Students?

What was your status when you applied to Ivy League colleges/universityies and that got you accepted? Why is that some extraordinary students get rejected, while some less extraordinary students are accepted?

Ivy League Students?
My son was ranked number one in his class (out of 155) .... had an SAT 1 score of 2360 (one sitting) and SAT2 scores of 800 in Math 1, Math 2 and Chemistry, 790 in World History and 760 in Biology. He is a second degree black belt in TaeKwonDo, was on the track team, (not a star by any means), took 9 AP exams and got 8 "5's" and 1 "4", won a national merit scholarship and did some volunteer work. That being said, there were 11 others in his class who were also accepted to various Ivies while still another 5 were accepted to other highly selective schools such as Williams and Johns Hopkins. By the way, none of them were under-represented minorities nor were they wealthy contributors to these schools. The schools look at the total package...inside and outside of the classroom as well as the rigor of your classes.
Reply:Basically Ivy league colleges and of that sort want hard working people and they like it even better when they are non-white.
Reply:I do not go to an Ivy League, but the answer to your second question is because of race/economic status.

Ivy League??

I want to go to an Ivy league school if I can. I'm wondering what kind of grades, test scores, and extracurricular activities you might need to get into these. Thanks!!!

Ivy League??
Get yourself some honors--when they see that you've won important things, then they'll want you at their school to further achieve and let them look good.

(btw my dream school since 4th grade has been Princeton)

Grades and test scores only show so much. They want a great all around person. Volunteer (and not just to graduate, if community service is required like it is for me). Be involved and be a leader in at least one club. Do not just show up to meetings for 6 different clubs--it's better to be extremely involved with 2. I'm in 4. I'm in Students for Charity (haven't done anything with them yet, because they haven't done much of anything as a club), Key Club (I went to a nursing home with them and I sold roses for them), Newspaper (I am a reporter and Copy Editor since freshman year), and I am in French Club (I go to each meeting, but I haven't done anything with them because the only they have done is throw a party and be in the homecoming parade and watch movies). I have a 3.85 GPA (96.462%). I haven't taken the standardized testing, but I took the PLAN which said I would be in the most selective college category by predicting my ACT scores. Check out the sites of each of the Ivies and check out their freshman profiles. Don't be afraid to check out the non-Ivies, though--Swarthmore, Amherst, Stanford, and other super-prestigious schools are just as good as just as selective, if not more. Good luck!!!
Reply:Perfect grades in honors and AP courses. Nearly perfect standardized test scores. Insane levels of community service and extracurricular leadership experience.

Oh wait, that summarizes nearly EVERYONE who applies to Ivy League schools. It's a toss of the coin.. with superior credentials, you may get in.. or you may not get in.

Why would you select only an Ivy League school? Look at SPECIFIC program rankings in programs at various universities across the USA. Ivies aren't the only top ranked, that's for sure. See which school has the best program in your area of study, and also which school you could get a full scholarship at.

Ivy leauge??

my gpa now is 4.0 but it was 3 in 1st three terms and 2.5 then 2.8 before it touched 4.0 my sat score is 2010 and 2370 in sat 2 will any ivy leauge college provide me a scholarship as i happen 2 be from asia

Ivy leauge??
You'll want to do some investigation to see how your school's grading matches up with the common US system, but most American colleges look at your cumulative GPA as well as the breakdown by term - and with that long a string of 2s and 3s, I don't know that your current improvement will be enough to help you when you're up against students who've maintained consistent A averages. Add to that the fact that your main SAT score is actually on the low side for Ivy admissions (I'm not saying it's not good, mind you, but you have to understand the level of competition you're dealing with here), that Asians are not a particularly underrepresented minority at these schools, and that very competitive private schools tend to base their aid on need, and you'd probably be better off looking elsewhere for scholarships.
Reply:you should just call the school or email them and ask what there qualifications are for you to attend, they will def. tell you. i went to cornell if thats the school you are looking at, and they accept a lot of international students and i think they do offter aid.
Reply:no. your stats are way too low to be considered for admission to any ivy league school.

and many schools will not provide aid to international students.
Reply:I guess, from your Avatar, that you have an advantage as a non-white applicant.

Penn and Cornell are reported to love non-white applicants, the most of all the Ivy League schools.

Even with reverse discrimination, you need a 3.2 GPA, 690-C.R 670- Math and a lot of E.C's and leadership positions.

Edit: I have doubts about them taking students from other continents on a equal footing with USA students, especially in the current international situations. I have no idea how that might help or hurt your application.

How can I remove dead ivy from my bldg. without damaging the surface?

I have ivy growing up the side of a concrete building that is coated with a painted surface. I have cut the ivy at the base, but find that trying to remove the fresh ivy from the wall, it is taking paint with it. Would it help to let it completely dry out and die before trying again to get it off the wall?

How can I remove dead ivy from my bldg. without damaging the surface?
You got it

The ivy needs to grow all the way to the ground cut it off before it hits the ground. Severing the roots. Let the stuff dry out. All the Way...When that has happened soak it for about an hour with a hose set on power wash or stream and that should remove it. Ivy does have little roots all through the plant structure and thats whats grabbing onto your wall when they dry out they shrink and can be removed.
Reply:the ivy has grown under the paint as it attached to the wall, so even letting it die and then removing will still remove the paint. It's best to remove the ivy completely, repaint the wall and then use somethign to prevent further growth of the ivy.

Ivy helps keep a building cool, so unless it is growing under shingles or causing damage to the structure...frankly, I would leave it.

Low-light creeping ivy recommendation?

I have an area around my back porch that would really benefit from some crawling ivy (I need to create some cover for a slatted wall).

Any recommendations on a good creeping ivy-type of plant that will thrive in a low light area? (Light heavily diffused from the trees directly above.)

Sean

Low-light creeping ivy recommendation?
I think my all time fav is Virginia creeper. It will creep along the ground and climb walls, trees, whatever. It has a beautiful leaf structure and is lovely shade of green during the summer and turns red in Autumn. Mine is growing in almost pure shade.

Here it is in green: http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/im...

What does poison ivy do?

two weeks ago i had these little red bumps on my big toe and i was pretty sure it was poison ivy, and just recently the skin on the bumps started drying and started to peel. Is poison ivy supposed to do that??

What does poison ivy do?
that could be athletes foot. ive had both, and they look very similar at first. just get some cream to put on it for athletes foot, and it should go away quickly
Reply:makes you really itchy - get some cortisone cream to take the itch away
Reply:i saw in ella enchanted that poison ivy makes our skin itches... and there are some effects like big boil-like something that i don't know...

Ivy League Lectures Online?

I was wondering if any of you have run across any websites with screencasts of Ivy League lectures. The Berkeley website has two years worth of their lectures, I'm looking for something with good history or astronomy lectures, preferably from somewhere like Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, any of the top 25.

Ivy League Lectures Online?
If you're looking for astronomy, you can't go wrong with Berkeley. They have one of the top astronomy programs in the country - in the top three with Harvard and CalTech.

What does Poison-Ivy (the plant) Symbolize to you?

To me Poison-Ivy symbolize the powers of death as well as life.

Poison-Ivy is a fragile, delicate, plant that lives to grow just like anything else, yet everyone is afraid of it. Once cut down it just keeps growing up until the source it destroyed (but who is daring enough to go near it). It can cause death, but it provides life for animals in the winter and to us as it photosysthesis to produce oxygen. It protects itself (with Urushiol oil) and keeps climbing until it reaches the top no matter what. Making it a fighting in my book what about you?

What does Poison-Ivy (the plant) Symbolize to you?
Itchiness
Reply:Itchy, itchy, itchy and it isn't fragile at all. It makes unsightly hairy vines that will also make you itch even if there are no leaves. I'm not afraid of it, it's a nuisance, and I need to wash after I've pulled it out. It competes with and strangles plants that are much more useful.
Reply:To me it symbolizes the minutiae of everyday life that we all have to deal with-intensely irritating but not life threatening ( I'm not sure where you got that-I've only heard of it causing one death-a smokejumper who breathed in smoke from burning ivy and it damaged his lungs severely)-impossible to rid yourself of entirely yet can be held at bay with constant vigilance and effort.

How do you like me now?
Reply:Poison Ivy is green. Green is the color of growth and has come to symbolize prosperity. Since it usually does grow up like anyother plant and doesn't stop growing I would say that its like a life symbol.

And girl who wrote how you like me now? I don't....plain and simple....Obviously your thinking very self centered because it can kill animals and humans eat it and who breath it. OBVIOUSLY its it can be deadly which it clearly says "IT CAN CAUSE DEATH" you even said it yourself about that guy dying from it. Think before you type. It pisses me off to no limits when I see people who think they know it all!!

Peace!
Reply:Your description of it was beautiful. Almost like the "Black Widow Spider", fascinating but lethal. When I think of poison Ivy (and poison Oak) I think of endless itching, blisters, cortisone shots and calamine lotion.

I try to give it respect and wide berth. Even when I try to avoid it, somehow it finds me.

Ivy league girl likes blue collar guys but it's impossible. help?

I have never really been attracted to the guys who I went to school with (an Ivy league school) and I don't really like that whole "culture" and attitude. The problem is, every time I try to date a "jock" type or an average joe kind of guy (who I am attracted to) they seem to be turned off by the fact I have a degree from Harvard %26amp; some of the work I have done. People say "oh honey they're just intimidated - don't worry - find someone who likes you for you-- " well enough already! The people that tend to like me for me are people that I am simply not interested in. I don't want to marry a doctor / lawyer / professor (which already makes me a freak to some people) - but no construction worker or a cop wants to go near me (except for 1 nighters). What am I supposed to do here? And, am I completely insane?

Ivy league girl likes blue collar guys but it's impossible. help?
How are you reacting to the blue collar guys. Are you going head first as soon as you meet them. If so take your time and play hard to get. Make it a challenge, we(blue collar workers) love a challenge, we have to know you are interested as well. Maybe leave the whole harvard thing out of the scenario, and just talk about little things save the smarts for when things progress maybe they wont be intimidated when they know you personally. I know I wouldn't. Hope I helped, at least a little.
Reply:Some men are intimidated by women who make more money than they do. That is especially true of blue collar men, who may be a bit insecure about their status anyway. Those who aren't intimidated will often assume that a woman like you wouldn't give them the time of day, and they won't consider you for that reason.

Also, look at it from a practical standpoint. I don't know how much money you're making, but let's say it's around $100,000 a year. A man who earns $20,000 a year might feel kind of silly even bothering to show up for work, if he was married to a woman who made that kind of money. Assuming you want kids, the most ideal prospect might be a guy who wants to do the Mr Mom thing, and take care of the kids, while you earn the money.

I'm not going to propose to you myself, based solely on a question you posed on the Internet, but I see nothing in your post that would cause me to rule you out either. There might be any number of reason why we wouldn't be right for each other, but if I'm game, a lot of other guys probably are too. It's just a matter of finding them, and the Internet is a great way to do it.

Even if, after looking at my profile, you would immediately rule me out as a prospect, email me anyway. I think we could have some interesting discussions.
Reply:Be the flame and not the moth.

First don't advertise it like a hotel sign. Let the guy get to know the rest of you and go from there.

Just because their blue collar doesn't make them stupid either. I have my degree.

Personally I'm Military my wife is far more educated than me which doesn't matter at all to me. We were attracted to each other for other reasons.
Reply:I went to a world known school and I'm black. Thing is, my mom wants me to marry a black man "on my level" in terms of education, socioeconomic background and all of that. Thing is, I've dated them and they are arrogant as a %26lt;insert negative word here%26gt;. They know they are a rarity since they are neither in jail or only have h.s. diplomas. They know it and from my experience they act like it. For me, there are more professional level and successful black women out there then men - so if you want to compete the men have a lot to choose from. Me, I'm very much into my goals and career. I want a partner who'd more into me than their job. So in reality I don't even want a man super into his career and all of that. I want my career to come first. I want him to be willing to spend more time with the kids, I want a man not into strict gender roles, but what's best for our family. I date outside of my race and socioeconomic background to my mothers stress and for me - with hopes of happiness. The man who's not professionally 'all that' will be proud of what you've done and even brag about what an awesome and smart woman he has. He'll respect your advice and accept you as you accept and respect him for what he brings into the relationship - not necessarily to your bank account. I don't tell guys about my house or details about what I've done and my education on a first or even second date. Get a feel for the guy and hold back on those things until you really think he's into you for you. It will help him get out stuff if he already likes you a lot and is comfortable with you. Telling him off the bat - he may leave because he thinks you can never take him seriously or that yes, he is intimidated. The type of guys I date...I let them pay for things and always..always let them help me if they ask and I think they can do it (even if I can do it for myself). It makes him feel that in many ways I need him to and that he can still add to the relationship. Good Luck!
Reply:oh hmm...well i'm not intimidated. i'm stupid as a brick, and i'd rely on someone like you to explain the world to me! you'd be like the little birds to my rhino. marry me?
Reply:Honestly, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, I'm only going to Tech School for Security Systems. But I'd wouldn't be turned off by someone such as you, in fact, intelligent women who aren't all mature and have no sense of simplicity and the slapstick humor of some things, are very hard to come by around here; though I am mature, I can be quite the spaz sometimes.

You're time will come, just be patient and wait; concentrate on your world first, and then sooner or later somebody will walk right into it, and distract you.
Reply:girl give it time as there is a guy out there for you and you'll find him when you are least looking for him
Reply:No, you're not insane, but you might want to tone down your pedigree a bit. Let a person get to know you before you haul out the Harvard degree, and list of accomplishments; I think you'll have better luck at attracting the kind of guy you want. Good luck!
Reply:dang, i would date you, just those guys aren't right, you are probably a beautiful and intelligent woman, and the guys are probably just some dumb jocks, find somebody who is average yet has some intelligence, or somebody willing to learn more, he will love you and you will love him
Reply:I know I think how you feel. I can relate. One thing I tried to be with blue colar, - trust me it is not easy, they have diffrent mentality and after awhile I couldn't take etheir. I theink problem is that both kind are two onesided for me. So, I realize I am looking for balanced people, - not focused professional or laid-back blue colar but someone have normal balance and living his life based on what makes him tick not outside stuff or have no direction at all

If I took out poison ivy plants but didn't get all of the roots out of the ground, will they grow back?

We had record rainfall this year and I have more poison ivy than ever before! I dug up about 20 plants yesterday, but I live in the Texas hillcountry and we don't really have dirt, its mostly rock and oak tree roots in the ground, so I couldn't really get all the poison ivy roots out of that. Will they grow back or will the damage just kill the plants?

(I didn't use a spray because I have a dog that eats poison ivy and I don't want her to get sick.)

If I took out poison ivy plants but didn't get all of the roots out of the ground, will they grow back?
Sorry, but "Yes"... they will grow back unless the root is removed...
Reply:Another pet friendly idea is to pour boiling water on the roots...it kills almost anything.
Reply:odd dog you have there. i dont believe you killed them , when they do come back poor a bunch of table salt on them . no poison and no more poison ivy!
Reply:Oh yes they will.
Reply:The salt is a good idea. Another thing you could do in the future is spray Roundup on an area of the plant the dog cannot get to. Like if the ivy has grown up a tree. The Roundup travels to the root system and kills the entire plant. I dont know for sure.... but I dont think the dog would be hurt that way.

Is it Poison Ivy?

Ok, so yesterday i was in the woods with my friend and there was alot of poison ivy around. We were trying to be careful not to touch it. But last night, my hand starting itching (on my palm) and there was something that looked like a bugbite in the middle, so i just left it alone. but then, a few other little bumps started appearing around it. My hand is really itchy now. Does anyone know if its poison ivy? i woudn't know because i have never had it. Also, do you know any itch creams that work really good?

Is it Poison Ivy?
It most likely is, what you should do in the future, is take rubbing alcohol to prevent to oils from spreading.. please know that once the oils has been washed off (you showering) it isnt contagious. to help with the itch use Caladryl CLEAR

please know, if you dont shower or use alcohol and scratch it, it will spread...

only sleep with a sheet
Reply:Yes it sounds like Poison ivy, I take benadryl and I put hydrocordazone cream on it. Oh yeah if you went to bed after being outside without a shower your sheets need to washed. The oils from the poison ivy will get on your sheets and make it spread when you sleep.

Ivy League?
All you can do is apply.
Reply:good chance, the SAT is low for Harvard and Yale though
Reply:You definetly have a legitimate chance. I'm a student at an ivy (Brown), and everyone here has a lot of those same kinds of statistics.

Really, it's what you do outside of that that is the make or break for the decision... what will you offer as far as diversity is concerned?

When you write your essays, be original, don't look up a format on the internet. Your essays are a heavy part of your application.
Reply:thats good , wish u the best. Stay out away from the bad guys. this will help u to be focused
Reply:wow where do u live, in wake county every body has a gpa of 4.5 and higer in nc wake county
Reply:depends on what ivy league. you seem to have a good chance at cornell, columbia, upenn, or anything along those lines. but maybe not harvard or princeton. your SAT score seems to be a little on the low side, but it's certainly not horrible. see if you can retake it and maybe do better? and your extracurriculars seem remarkable, as well as your test scores. i say fill out an application, and write a great essay. good luck!

please answer my question? thanks!

Ivy league competition?

how hard is to get into an ivy league like harvard or yale or columbia etc?

Ivy league competition?
I would say it's pretty easy. As long as you have a 2400 SAT, 4.0 GPA, valedictorian , captain of multiple sports teams, 1500 hour of community service, and are either an Olympian, Nobel prize winner, or have written a best selling novel you stand a good chance of admission at either Harvard or Yale. Other than that it's a total crap shoot.

Ivy League sports- getting noticed.?

Can anyone tell me the best way to get an introduction to an Ivy league coach or getting them to check out a kids talent?

Ivy League sports- getting noticed.?
Go to their athletic websites. Some, such as Columbia, have recruit forms to fill out.

Ivy League Universities based on Mathematics?

What are some Ivy League Universities/Colleges that focus more towards math(and the math SAT score)?

Example: Caltech, MIT, etc?

Ivy League Universities based on Mathematics?
Among the Ivies, Princeton has a great reputation for mathematics and has produced dozens of famous men and women in this field. But just about any of the Ivies will have a decent math department...except maybe Harvard. Yale '88
Reply:All of them. They all have Math program and Science programs.
Reply:MIT and Caltech are not Ivy League schools though...

You might want to look up Princeton.
Reply:MIT is the upper echelon for math majors.
Reply:I would have to say pretty much ALL of them. Math to colleges is like a determination of one's I.Q.

Ivy Dorms?

Hi... how are dorms in general in the IVY's?? If i apply to some of them... will i ever have a room for myself??... how many people share a bathroom??, is it clean??... are they quiet??...

Please: refer all your answers to the Freshman year... i've read that when you are a Junior or senior you can get a personal room/bathroom

Thnx!!

ps: im an international student.

Ivy Dorms?
Which school are you asking about? Dorm sizes and bathroom facilities vary by school and building. Some places offer singles, others do not. Some have a common bathroom, others are ensuite.

Ivy league difficulty?

how hard is the actual workload at an ivy league school once you've been accepted? students insight who go/went would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Ivy league difficulty?
Yale is hard: everyone studies in secret so that they can shine and get the best recommendations for their summer externships/graduate school. Putting a lot of effort into your writing will take you a long way, since most seminars are paper-heavy. Students are pretty intellectual and well-read because they tend to come from rigorous private high schools.

U Penn is pretty easy. Lots of big lecture courses and overworked graduate teaching assistants mean that tests are not carefully graded and grade inflation is rampant. More kids from public schools attend and there is a somewhat more business-like atmosphere. I would not say intellectualism is highy prized here, which makes it easier on everyone. Lots of showing off (especially of New money), whereas at Yale showing off is not at all cool. You wouldn't know someone in your residential college won a Rhodes scholarship unless you read it in the papers.
Reply:I went to Cornell. It was very cut-throat.

The professors were very friendly and always available, but that's really true about any private school and not limited to just the Ivy League. The grading however was a bit rough. Professors give hard exams, hard enough that the mean is sometimes in the 40's or 50's.

Because of such low means, a lot of classes were curved to B- or C+. However, when everyone in the class studies, it's tough for any 1 person to get so much higher above the rest, to get an A.

From my experience there, you will definitely graduate in 4 years if you're serious about studying, and do your work as you're assigned it (ie. no procrastination). However, you can't stress out about your GPA. Since everyone there is smart and is from the top % of their HS, everyone studies, and the average student would receive a B- for what may be A+ coursework in other schools.
Reply:I'm sure the difficulty level a person experiences is directly related to: 1) how intelligent s/he is, 2) how rigorous a course-load s/he took in high school, 3) the type of study skills s/he developed in high school, etc.

One answer surely doesn't fit all in this case.
Reply:At Brown it's not too hard. You can take what you want - so if you want to punish yourself you can. I have to write papers quite a bit and even though they aren't very long you can't BS it. Lots of reading which is pretty deep. I think sciences people put in more time than I do though. They also likely make more money.

I also went to a community college for 2.5 years so to compare it that it is MUCH harder. But it's still doable.
Reply:It's actually pretty easy. Everyone says that the hardest part about the Ivies is getting in; from there, you're coasting--and have way less work than your counterparts who got into other top colleges (ie. Williams, Amherst) that weren't Ivies.

However, Columbia DOES have a lot of work.
