Getting into an Ivy League School?

Hello, I am currently a sophmore in high school approaching my junior yeat after summer vacation and I was wondering what my chances of getting into an ivy league school was... when i was a freshman in high school i lacked work ethic and had an 80.6 average by the end of the school year and now during my sophmore year i have seen what i can do when i apply myself i now currently have a 95.8 average and i am rank 8 out of 210 sophmores and i wanted to know would my poor grade from freshman year possibly come to bite me in the butt when it comes college time because i really want to go to an ivy league school (preferably Princeton, Dartmouth, or Cornell) can someone please help me?

Getting into an Ivy League School?
It's hard to tell from your gpa and rank. Princeton and Dartmouth may not be able to look past your GPA and rank unless you have excellent extracurriculars, awards, recommendations and connections. They'll use any reason to put applications in the reject pile. But Cornell really does look at the whole person. People often mistake that for being "easy to get into".
Reply:Just to let you know, you don't necesarily have to go to an Ivy League school to get a excellent education.

Anywho, I think that colleges will appreciate that you're grades have been improving over the course of high school. I did pretty bad my freshman year as well. Keep in mind that grades aren't the only thing colleges look at. Get involved in many extracurricular activities. If you do that and keep up your good grades, I'm sure you can get into any school of your choice when the time comes.
Reply:well I had a cousin who had perfect grades, was valedictoria and did not get into princeton...

I can tell you now my gpa was a 3.3 freshman year (its like a mid B average)

and as a senior my total gpa for all four years is a 3.75 (high A average)

i got into private schools, but i did not get into william and mary which is very tough and it might be an ivy league school? anyways it is a verryyyy goood school

but just keep doing well and who knows
Reply:Alright well gpa plays a role in acceptances but that won't be the determinant reason you get into an ivy league. If you keep on the path you are going you may have a chance. It depends how difficult these courses are. What will truly make or break you will be what you do outside of school. If you are the leader of clubs or team captain it will help even more. Don't let your freshman year be a deterrent. You just have to really prove yourself by taking the toughest courses and excelling outside of school. I had an 89 percent and i was accepted. I was also Varsity Lacrosse Captain and Soccer Captain twice. Amazing recommendations and I wrote an essay that brought people to tears. So its within range.
