Ivy League school?

I always hear people saying Ivy League school this and that. What does it mean anyway? Prestigious school?

Ivy League school?
The Ivy League is a group of prestigious schools that also happen to be the oldest colleges/universities of America. These schools are all private and are located in the northeast. It consists of Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, UPenn and Yale. It also refers to the sports league they belong to (think ACC, Pac-10, SEC, etc). Although Stanford is academically on the same level it is not an ivy league school, Stan is a member of the Pac-10.
Reply:The Ivy League is a football league. There are plenty of other fantastic schools out there that don't spend all their money on sports. I suggest you consider them as well.
Reply:The Ivy League refers to a specific group of schools, which includes Harvard, Yale, and others. These schools are notorious for being great schools that you have to be very smart to get into.

Reply:If you cant figure this one out on your own, I dont think you should be worrying about it.... because obviously, the words 'Ivy League' are not in your future.
Reply:Yeah, prestigious, think pretty highly of themselves. They are a group of private schools in Northeastern US, mostly founded before the Revolutionary War. They like to feel that all the other colleges/universities are mere upstarts.
