Oh no i have poison ivy! it's itchy and i need help!?

I'm pretty sure I have poison ivy. I scratched my arm earlier and felt bumps. When I checked it out closer I noticed I have a line of bumps, and another couple of bumps next to eachother. I did yard work all last week, so I'm pretty sure it's poison ivy (althought I never saw any!) I have this stuff called Ivy Stat. Have you ever used it? Does it work? What do you use that helps? HELP ME!!!

Oh no i have poison ivy! it's itchy and i need help!?
First of all wash the area thoroughly to completely remove the sticky residue (so it won't transfer to your clothes and other parts of your body). Wash any clothes that might have it on it in hot water a couple times.

Then put rubbing alcohol on the area and apply either calamine lotion, Gold Bond medicated powder (with zinc, which really helps!) or some other lotion, gel or powder formulated for poison ivy. And Aveeno makes this oatmeal bath stuff that really helped me. You can try it or some of their other products, too.

And try not to itch it. If you do, wash your hands immediately.

You might want to take an anti histamine to help with the swelling and itching if you want to (like Zyrtec or Benadryl).

You can also get steroid shots or pills from the doctor if it gets really bad. An over the counter steroid cream like hydrocortisone can also be helpful.

Good luck! You might want to learn what poison ivy looks like so you can avoid it in the future!
Reply:Go to the pharmacy and get some calamine or caladryl lotion and it should dry it up if it's not too bad. You can also ask the pharmacist. Good luck Honey. I've had it before and it's no fun.
Reply:i suggest you use calamine lotion often. This will relieve the itching and dry up the poison ivy. If this doesn't help after a few days, it could be something else so you shoud see a docter.
Reply:i get it bad when i get it. i always HAVE to go to the doctor b/c my body cant beat it alone or something... and after the doctor, it cleared up in 2 or 3 days :D but while you have it, take aveeno baths. not hot water, just barely warm. hot makes it itch. but REALLY hot water scratches it and feels good, but im sure its not good for your skin lol

Reply:Go to the doc and get a steroidshot. Very effective at controlling the itch. If not available try using a potent steriod cream Diprolene AF. (may have to get a script for that)

Some really good OTC stuff? Itch-X.

Do your best not to sweat, wear as little as possible and keep yourself cool.

If you break out within 4-8 hours of contact see a Dr. IMMEDIATELY. (Early signs mean an allergry) Most people break out 24-48 hours after contact.
