How can I get Algerian Ivy ( Hedera Canariesis) to grow fast ??

My front yard is all Ivy about 40 years of growth. My neighbors old Oak tree died and fell on the ivy killing quite a bit. ( 15' x 20' area ). I cleaned it all up and planted 100's of baby slips. So far after a year the ground cover is good but they're too short about 6" tall vs 2' tall of the old Ivy. How can I get it leveled out with starting all over again

DOCTOR IVY, at your service. Here is your best answer dumped in your lap by someone who REALLY knows what you need to do. Growing from your old clipping was a good, but sloooow start. Pick up some already rooted plants from your local nursery. Plant the new, rooted plants here and there among the young plants you started. (am mend soil to depth of 8-12 inches if possible with organic matter) Before planting your new "filler" plants, thoroughly moisten the soil and see to it the new "filler" plants have also been well watered so that their stems, roots and leaves are full of moisture. After planting, feed with a high-nitrogen fertilizer. Feed again in mid summer. Keep 'um well watered and COOL. If you get a summer hot spell, try to provide with some temporary shade to reduce sudden loss of moisture. Pinch or trim back around the edges 2 or 3 times a year. Keep roots from drying out during hot weather. If possible, mulch between the small plants.

Oh ya, protect from slugs %26amp; snails!!!
