Ivy league schools overrated?

I know that you get an excellent education, but I flat out cant afford it (most normal people cant). Other than boosting your ego (im not trying to be rude, Im being completely serious), how much does graduating from an ivy league school affect you opposed to a person who goes to a state school?

Ivy league schools overrated?
Both schools will give you connections to many useful people (The connections made in Ivy League are particularly useful) but only Ivy Leagues give you immense bragging rights.
Reply:I agree with previous poster that it depends on what state school. In CA, there's UCLA, UC Berkeley - they are both well known and has the prestige - of course not like ivy league schools.

My experience - I went to UCLA for undergrad and then for my masters, I went to Columbia University. I have to admit that Columbia's curriculum is so much easier and more people are impressed with Columbia than UCLA. I think grad school is more important for ivy leagues than undergrad.
Reply:it really depends on the state school and what kind of degree you want every college has a specialty and if you have leads for a job then i guess a state school will do just as good or not better
Reply:i think it's worth it. you make hundreds of usefull connections when you attend an ivy league. i have also noticed that a majority of ivy leagers are millionairs (look at fortune500 the majority of them went to an ivy league school) .
Reply:I would say going to an IVY League helps. First of all, everbody will have heard of your school, and second because of the fact they are so expensive, a lot of the kids their are the kids of famous CEO's and stuff. Therefore, by making friends with those fellows, you are also creating job leads for when you graduate.
Reply:Well, ivy league schools are just for show something to put on your resume to make people think that you're more than you really are. They are no different than any other school it simply called status its more political than anything people will look at the name of a school from which you've graduated long before they look at the substance of the individual. Whats in a name??Most are fictitious
