Is an Ivy League Education truly worth more than actual work experience?

It used to be that one voted for political leaders that possessed common sense and work experience. It so appears that now it is based on education from an Ivy League school with a major in political science.

What does a degree in political science from an Ivy League college teach that prepares one to be an expert in everything without having to physically work to gain actual experience?

Going to and recieving an Ivy League education and diploma shows that you are 9 out of 10 times likely to come from the "elite" American families.
Reply:Actually - you are better off getting a degree in Political Science from a great state schools like UC Berkeley, UVa, and or UM of Ann Arbor which will give you a much bigger bang for your buck than Columbia.
Reply:in what context?
Reply:It depends on what you major in. Accounting, Engineering yes. A degree in liberal arts no. I suppose a degree in Political Science would most qualify one to work in the field of politics, but many politicians do not have a degree in politcal science from an Ivy league school, or any other school for that matter. It is a BS subject nevertheless.
Reply:The Universities provide exposure to Liberal thought -

that is the secret ingredient.
Reply:No one goes from college directly into a major elected office. To be President, you have to be age 35. So you get some experience, either before or after going to college.

Having degrees on one's resume, from Ivy League schools, is a good thing. Bill Gates went to Harvard. He never graduated. Look what he accomplished. John Kerry has a law degree from Harvard. Besides getting elected to the Senate, his accomplishments have been non-existent.
Reply:Although "Micorsoft Works" might be called precedant,

there is actually no such thing as "Political Science"...
Reply:The Skull and Bones say so.
Reply:Yes, after graduating from college I was hired by a Contractor in MN.

My first day at work, I was ask to bid on a million $$ project. I didn't know sh-it! so I asked for help from a co-worker who never went to college. I continue to asked for his help for about 3-4 month. = work experience.
